Researchers from ims.bio recently strengthened international collaboration efforts through a collaboration with the University of Uppsala, Department of Information Technology, focused on advancing the Prostate Cancer Aggressiveness Index (PCAI).

During a two-week stay, the team worked closely with partners in Thiruvananthapuram, a city in the southern Indian state of Kerala, to further develop PCAI and adapt it specifically to biopsy samples collected in India. A key aspect of this collaboration involves the C-DAC Centre, which is developing a dedicated scanning solution that will be used jointly with the Regional Cancer Centre (RCC), Thiruvananthapuram.

The visit also included a one-day international workshop in computational pathology, where the team participated as international delegates. It was inspiring to see how AI is being applied in pathology across different contexts, highlighting the field’s rapid development and global relevance.

Beyond the scientific exchange, the team toured local laboratories, received a warm welcome, and engaged in cultural exchange activities. India offers significant potential for impact due to its large and diverse population, and the team was particularly impressed by the strong motivation of local developers and researchers to improve healthcare outcomes creating a solid foundation for continued collaboration.
